In 2009, the Nanaimo Community Gardens Society, Nanaimo Foodshare Society, and City of Nanaimo Parks, Recreation and Culture launched a new pilot project to grow food on City land (at City Hall and Beban Park) called Gardens For Good. Produce from these gardens is distributed to the community through the Gleaning Program. In 2010, this program will aim to further develop the educational benefits of these sites.
Come on down for a tour of the City Hall and Beban Park food gardens and a general discussion on backyard gardening. Bring your curiosity and questions. $5 each, children free (must be accompanied by an adult). Please note that the City Hall garden is not wheelchair accessible.
