Nanaimo Community Gardens Society has been operating for more than a decade to provide education in backyard gardening. In a series of workshops this Fall, Community Gardens wants to get more people growing more food in our region and aims to give you the skills needed to help you grow your own food.

Saturday September 10, 10am-12pm — Lasagna GardeningLasagna gardening is a wonderful no-dig method of making a new garden over lawns or weeds. You will take home the know how of starting a garden immediately for Fall.

Saturday September 24, 10am-12pm — Winter Vegetable GardeningLearn the basics of growing food year round in our climate. We will cover what veggies withstand our winter and how to start a garden just in time for winter using various season-extending techniques. Take home a seedling, a container of compost worms, and a seed package of your choice and the information to plant and care for them.

Saturday October 15, 10am-12pm — Composting
Find out what to put into your compost and how to produce that wonderful "black gold" that is so valuable to every gardener. Bring your questions and take home a starter batch or red wrigglers for your own backyard composter.

Saturday November 26, 10am-12pm — Fruit Tree Pruning
Properly cared for trees bear more fruit. Receive instructions on proper pruning techniques, general fruit tree care, revitalizing overgrown trees and training young trees.
