Plant Sales: 271 Pine St. Wed 10-4, Fri 10-6, Sat 10-4, Sun 10-4

Do you want to support local food production? Do you have a garden? Are you interested in learning how to grow your own food?

Our plant sales are on now! Due to the enthusiasm of our volunteers and the high quality of plants coming from our greenhouse, plant sales have been extended another month until the end of July! Our vegetable seedlings are grown by volunteers from non-genetically-modified seeds and all proceeds go to our hands-on programs. Come and check out our wide variety of heritage vegetables, herbs and edible flowers for sale.

Come to 271 Pine St. and pick out your plants in person! Plants and seeds can be purchased every Wednesday from 10-4, Friday from 10-6, Saturday and Sunday from 10-4 until the end of July at our Community Garden site at 271 Pine St, behind Foodshare. Our seedlings are $2.25 each, or $35.00 for a flat of 18 plants. For a description of the plants for sale, see our list of varieties for sale.

Bring your gardening questions and our knowledgeable volunteers will be happy to help you! For people with plant questions, there will be Master Gardener clinics announced soon in July.

The production and sales of heritage vegetable plants is an exciting new social enterprise venture for Nanaimo Community Gardens Society that will help more people grow food locally by:

· providing access to - and preserving the diversity of -   heritage food plants
· educating people how to grow food and save seeds
· funding other Society programs that help people increase their self-reliance in food

Greenhouse volunteers grow an extensive communal container garden in the greenhouse on Hammond Bay Rd. sharing the work and the community of gardening together. From February through July, these Greenhouse volunteers lead the seeding, transplanting and nurturing of the heritage plants we sell to support our programs and increase food production in our community. The educational, hands on experience of greenhouse production is a great chance for you to expand your skills and knowledge of starting plants indoors from seed, natural growing methods and self sustainability. For greenhouse work party times, contact Jody at (250) 758-0177.

Volunteers are needed to help staff our plant sales. Come share your enthusiasm for growing edible plants and flowers organically! To volunteer, come by during plant sales times or phone Willow Vardal at (250) 591-3136.
