Plant Sales

Do you want to support local food production? Do you have a garden? Are you interested in learning how to grow your own food?

Check out our wide selection of edible heritage vegetables, herbs, flowers and seeds for sale.

Our plants are grown by volunteers from non-genetically-modified seeds and sold to gardeners all over Nanaimo. We grow and sell edible seedlings that thrive in our climate in order to educate our community through getting people actively growing food. All proceeds go to support our hands-on educational programs.

For a list of the plants sold in 2011, see our list of varieties for sale.

Our annual plant sale helps more people grow food locally by:

· providing access to and preserving the diversity of heritage food plants
· educating people on how to grow food and save seeds
· funding other Society programs that help people increase their self-reliance in food

Help us succeed!

You can help us succeed by purchasing plants, showing your support by becoming a member, and volunteering your time. We are actively growing vegetables in our community garden and greenhouse sites and running educational programs all year round. Download your membership form from this website to send in, or drop by our Community Gardens at 271 Pine St on Wednesdays between 11-4pm to check us out. Come grow with us!

Greenhouse volunteers grow an extensive communal container garden in the greenhouse on Hammond Bay Rd. sharing the work and the community of gardening together. From February through July, these Greenhouse volunteers lead the seeding, transplanting and nurturing of the heritage plants we sell to support our programs and increase food production in our community. The educational, hands on experience of greenhouse production is a great chance for you to expand your skills and knowledge of starting plants indoors from seed, natural growing methods and self sustainability. For greenhouse work party times, contact Jody at (250) 758-0177.
